Becoming a firefighter requires a firm commitment of time and energy. Fire practices are held weekly on Wednesday night and attendance is required. All firefighters are expected to embark on a rigorous, self-motivated training program in all aspects of the job. Some of the courses taken by current members of the department include Ropes and Knots, Safety, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, Hose and Fire Streams, Ladders, Confined Space Rescue, Rappelling, and High Angle Rescue.

To become a fire fighter in the City of Grand Forks one must apply to the Fire Chief. Applicants will be required to take a physical fitness test and undergo an interview to determine suitability. For more information on these requirements contact the Fire Chief at 442-8266 or by email.
