Connecting to the City of Grand Forks electrical service:

Temporary Service

For a new construction service, a temporary power supply is generally required. This entails the City crew connecting an electrical meter on a temporary service pole, supplied by the electrical contractor, at the construction site. Prior to the connection actually being made, the owner or an agent must apply for the service at City Hall. This application must be accompanied by an affidavit from a certified electrician stating that the connection has been approved and is authorized for hook-up.

The charge to connect a temporary service is $100.00 plus GST for a total of $105.00. When construction is complete, the temporary power pole is removed and the owner/tenant must apply to City Hall for new service as detailed below.

Existing Service Connection
& Reconnection Charges

To have an existing electrical account transferred into a new owner or tenant's name, the individual must apply for an account at City Hall. The cost of applying for an electrical account for an existing service is $30.00 plus GST for a total of $31.50 for both setting up the new account and to cancel the existing one.

An owner can give written authorization to have the utility account mailed care of his tenant. For further information, please contact City Hall.
