


Grand Forks Elections
Municipal Elections are held every three years, with the next election slated for 2014. In Grand Forks there are six Council seats and the Mayor’s chair to be filled during the election.
To be eligible to vote as a resident elector in a municipal election, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Be 18 years old or older on voting day
- Have been a resident of British Columbia for six months
- Have been a resident of the municipality for at least 30 days
- Not be disqualified by any enactment from voting
Individuals (not companies) who own property in the municipality, but are not resident in the municipality, are also provided with an opportunity to vote.
To vote as a non-resident property elector an individual must:
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Be 18 years old or older on voting day
- Have been a resident of British Columbia for six months
- Have been a registered owner of real property in the municipality for at least 30 days
- Not be entitled to vote in the municipality as a resident elector
- Not be disqualified by any enactment from voting
(There is only one vote per property. If the property is owned by more than one person, only one owner is allowed to vote. The individual assigned the right to vote for the property must have the written consent of the other owners.)
