Councillor Joy Davies

I was born in Vancouver 1948.  I lived in Tumbler Ridge, Kamloops and back to Vancouver before moving to Grand Forks during the Easter weekend of 2005. Having lived in smaller communities I had a yearning to get back to one.  My mother’s family lived in the Grand Forks and Ootischenia areas since the depression days so moving to Grand Forks was like coming home to my roots.  Last summer I opened The Olde Swimmin’ Hole Concession followed by the Antiques & Gift Shoppe in the fall.
My path in life has been very dynamic & interesting.  I’ve been very fortunate to experience life in the arts, business and volunteerism.  I started and operated many businesses over the years. .  I owned and operated Peace River Flooring & Interior Design in Tumbler Ridge where I was heavily involved in the Chamber of Commerce as their President, served as District 10 Chairman of the BC Chamber of Commerce and sat on the Board of Directors of the BC Chamber of Commerce where I was honored with the Certificate of Merit.
The last business I started and operated in Vancouver was my talent agency, Reel Talent where I promoted eastern European actors (mainly Russian) to the film & TV industry.

I was appointed by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to the first City Council of Tumbler Ridge; then elected for a second term by the voters.   Some of my council responsibilities included chairing and sitting on many provincial & regional committees including chairing the Regional Tourism Committee where I was awarded the Regional Hospitality Award.  Other involvements while living in the Peace River included being appointed to Community Future’s Board of Directors of Peace River Liard; the Industrial Development Association of Canada and the Economic Development Association of BC.

Moving back to the coast I consulted to the Provincial Government’s Ministry of Small Business in the area of Home-based business.  I worked primarily in Entrepreurnism (VCC Small Business Development Officer) and marketing (VP/Sales & Marketing, Hospitality Publishing Company).  I also sat on many Provincial government and industry committees including the Downtown Eastside Economic Development Committee and the Ministry of Labour’s Committee to regulate Talent Agents.

Since moving to Grand Forks I served on the Board of Directors of Abbeyfield, co-produced The Music Man and was the co-ordinator for the Boundary Air Quality Committee.  Because of my long standing passion for and commitment to economic development I am grateful to be able to work with the people of Grand Forks in this area as one of my City Council responsibilities.

I have 2 adult daughters and 1 grandson living in Vancouver and my mother still lives in Grand Forks.

I look forward to working for you this term and invite you to contact me with your city concerns.
