WATER & SEWER

Sewage Treatment:
The City of Grand Forks provides sewer service to approximately 90% of the population within city limits and is billed on a bi-monthly basis.(Refer to our Bylaw Section of our web page for up to date rate information).The sewage treatment plant is state-of-the-art and has the capability of expanding its’ services. The old sewage lagoons beside the plant are used for storage of sludge waste.
Water Supply:
The City of Grand Forks water system is supplied with fresh water by four deep wells. The water supply is tested on a regular basis by the Provincial Ministry of Health and meets all health requirements. The City bills for water on a bi-monthly basis. (Refer to the Bylaw Section of our web page for updated rate information.) Sprinkling regulations are enforced in city limits. Grand Forks Irrigation and SION Improvement District supply water to many of the rural areas. The homes that are not serviced by the above services derive their water from private ground water wells.

ELECTRICAL POWER

LANDFILL & WASTE

Residential garbage is collected weekly by a waste service under contract to the City. Collection costs are billed bi-monthly by the City of Grand Forks.(Refer to the Bylaw section of our web page for updated Garbage rates). Industrial, institutional, commercial and multi complex buildings arrange their own garbage disposal. The Grand Forks Sanitary Landfill is located in the north eastern corner of the city on Granby Road.

The City of Grand Forks has a curb side recycling & yard waste program.

There are no hazardous waste disposal sites in British Columbia.


TELECOMMUNICATIONS:

TELUS Communications (www.telus.com) serves the Grand Forks area. Services have been upgraded and high speed ADSL internet is available.
